Another beautiful slice of house from Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge, this time destined for Dixon’s Innervisions label. Typical of Dekay & Burridge’s production, the warm swelling chords barley cling to the end of each bar until, after 7 ethereal minutes, they finally break and reveal the woody off beat knocking that surrenders the groove you’ve been aching for. Get the vinyl from Innervisions with a mix from Dixon on the B-side.

Anthony Collins – Ransom

Sometimes all you need is a real nice groove to make you feel good about the world, and that’s exactly what Anthony Collins has provided here, along with the requisite slice of melancholy needed to really get my juices flowing. Taken from the Exhibit A EP – the debut release on the Scissor & Thread-affiliated Natural History imprint – it’s even got ace artwork. What more could you ask for?
The Marx Trukker – Tape Be Good To You EP
Well dub-diddly-dub-dub, the new release on GCW is bloody marvellous. An unctuous slice of dub techno from Berlin’s ever experimental ‘Marx Trukker’. Title track ‘Tape Be Good To Me’ is the standout IMO; it’s thick and chunky and packs in more atmosphere than THIS. What’s great about Marxy though, is his unquestionable ability to nail the elusive mistress that is groove; every hum, thud and scrape reacts with its neighbour. The rest of the EP gets deeper and progressively more erratic as you explore, the curtain call being a remix from Dimitar Dodovski that’s as unpredictable as a box of angry (if not slightly lethargic) frogs. A marvellous release! It’s out in May.
Christian Loeffler – Blind
I’m a very happy chap today, as the promo for Christian Loeffler’s LP has just landed in my inbox. I raved about his EP earlier this year, so to say I was bang up for getting stuck into it is somewhat of an understatement. Happily it doesn’t disappoint, and ‘Blind’ is just one of the many stunning tracks I could have highlighted. Will be doing a full review for Resident Advisor soon and keep your eyes peeled for the release, out in June on Ki Records.
Nikola Gala – Only (Ryan Elliott Remix)
October & Borai – Level Abstain
This is only the second record from the newly launched Never Learnt label, but they’ve already made quite an impression. This is probably the pick of the cuts, but there’s not much in it between this and the b-side ‘Vital Ital Rub’. Deep, brooding and satisfying – just like house should be – out 23rd April (vinyl only).
Milscot – All Alone (Domyan Just Slow Remix)
James Welsh – Air Valley
When I first heard this record I thought I was in some kind of old movie looking out onto a crackly, romantic and changing world. It’s hard to find words to describe such a timeless record – beautiful chords that sound like they’ve been sampled from a 1920 gramophone and a revisited vocal that talks directly to the heart – are at the backbone of this track, and boy they are lovely.
Dan Ghenacia & Shonky – Close To The Edge
Well summer has officially started and we’ve got a party at the end of the week so what better way to celebrate than with a sneak peak of Apollonia’s second release “Close To The Edge”. Label owners Dan Ghenacia and Shonky get behind the desk and create a piece of house music with the sunshine in mind, sunset or sunrise (we don’t mind when you listen to it!). You can tell Shonky’s influence on the record, his funky basslines and locked grooves ring through, but when you add Dan into the mix, you get years of experience in house music. Perfect! Just listen and smile
