Shades Of Gray – Drums Of The South

This lovely little gem is taken from Shade Of Gray’s full length, out now on Beef Records. Definitely one of the darker offerings on the album, the chopped up vocal imparts a ghostly, African inspired element whilst moody pads provide a warming backdrop. Add some funky, kick-snare-kick action and all my musical boxes are ticked. I like it alot.

There’s plenty more on this album that deserves your attention, much of it sample based, dancefloor orientated and laced with soul and disco sensibility. To whet your appetite SOG are giving one of the more low slung numbers away…for nadda. Download it here. The album also features a remix on each track from some farily prolific players. More info.

Andy Ash – Mason in my Basin

It’s housey, disco-ish edit o’clock here at GetDownGood, this time in the form of Andy Ash’s sublime ‘Mason in My Basin’, a cheeky re-working of Eddie Kendrick’s ‘Darling, Come Back Home’. It’s beautifully done, balancing a solid groove with a lovely vocal sample. The Dance EP it’s taken from is out now on Foto Recordings. Enjoy!

Duff Disco – Sunshine EP

This is the second release on my little Tenth Circle side-project, and I think it’s just lovely – but then I would think that wouldn’t I? Anyway, it seems that a few other people agree with me as it’s charting pretty well at Juno and seems to be making a few people feel all nice and warm inside. Check it out yo! And if you like it, why not pop on over to Juno and pick up some wax of your own…

Azari & III – Hungry For The Power (Jamie Jones Remix)

One of the best new Jamie Jones remixes I’ve heard in a while. It’s got that signature JJ bassline that got Fabric’s room 1 bumpin’ and sreaming for the power at the weekend. This is one of those remixes you’ll be hearing at lot more of over the summer months. Smash.

Fantastic Man – Look This Way

This is out on Wolf  on November 20th. Really funky vibes, smashing break in the middle. Lovely. 3 other gems also coming on the EP from KRL, Brothers Rise, and OOft! You definitely want to get it. Wolf
(I should mention – I plagiarised the artwork from my good friend Duncan of the Fallon agency. If you are in need of limitless visuals, hit me up and I can put you in touch)

James Johnston – Give me a shock

This is throbbing and deep and everything I love about the retro disco house sound. I think James Johnson says it well on his soundcloud:

“As molecules cool down they move more slowly…and so do i :) !”

Building up a nice collection of unreasonably slow records at the moment, it’s nice when you have something else you can actually play them with.

I was at a loss for a nice picture to go with this – so I stuck up a completely unrelated illustration by Patty Challenor. It also feels effortlessly cool and laid back – went nicely I thought.
