Clovis – Monk Enthusiast

The ever-talented Clovis recently reworked Thelonius Monk’s ‘Caravan’ and is currently giving it away on his Soundcloud. It’s slow (obvs), percussion heavy and lets the silky piano antics of Monk do the vast majority of the talking. Smoother than a heavily buffed peach drenched in Jack Daniels, you can grab a digital copy for yourself right here…

Andy Ash – Mason in my Basin

It’s housey, disco-ish edit o’clock here at GetDownGood, this time in the form of Andy Ash’s sublime ‘Mason in My Basin’, a cheeky re-working of Eddie Kendrick’s ‘Darling, Come Back Home’. It’s beautifully done, balancing a solid groove with a lovely vocal sample. The Dance EP it’s taken from is out now on Foto Recordings. Enjoy!

James Blake – Limit to Your Love (DB Edit)

To be perfectly honest, James Blake’s ‘Limit to Your Love’ kinda passed me by. Maybe there was a bit too much going on within the track for me to be able to appreciate just how beautiful the vocal was, or maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention; whatever. The important thing is, there’s no chance of me letting this one slip by without the acknowledgement it deserves; this is quite simply stunning, with Daniel Bortz stripping away all but the very barest of essentials, creating a slice of deep house that simply aches with melancholy.  Coming soon to Keine Rechte and on Discogs for a ridiculously inflated price fairly soon after I’d imagine…don’t say we didn’t want you.

Solomun – Love Recycled (2)

Now I’m a pretty large fan of Solomun; the Bosnian-born Croatian has always delivered in the bouncy-tech-house-no-messin; category, thank you very much. But I didn’t see this one coming; a ridiculously splendid edit of Bran Van 3000′s ‘Astounded’ which squeezes out every possible strain of tortured emotion from Curtis Mayfield’s stunning vocal. Lush, in every sense of the word…no idea when it’s out or even if it will get a proper release, but it needs to be shared….plus there are two other gems on the EP – hunt ‘em down!

Yekermo Sew – Mulatu Astatke (Nicolas Jaar Edit)

By far one of my favourite producers at the moment, the live set I saw from young Nico last month blew me away. The music of Mulatu Astatke is no stranger to his productions, it’s clear he draws a great deal of inspiration from this musician. This edit is as yet unreleased. It is one of my favourites, that and his remix of NRP – Owe Me, if you haven’t, you should check that out too!

Electric Jones – Nasty’s Party (Jamie Jones Edit)

Something to get you in the mood for the Discovery and Warm Carnival bash with Jamie Jones! A march onward to phat bass heaven, just picture efforts like this on the huge F1! Nasty! ;-p
