Cottam – Relapse

Photo

Former GetDownGood cuddly bear Cottam is a really lovely guy and he makes even lovelier music, as evidenced by his latest EP for Will Saul’s Aus Music. Just listen to those phasing drums and big, warm pads; lush innit? Well we think so… This’ll be out in a couple of weeks and we strongly recommend that when it is you pop down to your local record outlet and purchase a copy. Go on… it’ll make you feel reaaaaal good about yourself.

Soak – Sea Creatures (Ryan Vail & Unknown Remix)

Here’s an incredibly stunning remix of a track called Sea Creatures by Irish musician SOAK. The hardware heavy remix comes care of Ryan Vail and Unknown, the anonymous producer responsible for these rather lovely tracks. Whilst the post-dubstep dilletantes pitch down vocals and assemble sample packs – it’s tracks like this that stand out for their brilliant concrete ideas and sheer space and warmth. And the gentle throb of the bass in this track…oh my god!

Mind Against – Cagliostro

Life and Death’s recent label of the month feature for RA revealed some new exciting music from the relatively young imprint, we’d highly recommend a read/listen. This particular track by ‘Mind Against’ had the whole office intermittently raising their heads to ask; ‘what we listening to again’?  Emotional stuff.

The Marx Trukker – Tape Be Good To You EP

Well dub-diddly-dub-dub, the new release on GCW is bloody marvellous. An unctuous slice of dub techno from Berlin’s ever experimental ‘Marx Trukker’. Title track ‘Tape Be Good To Me’ is the standout IMO; it’s thick and chunky and packs in more atmosphere than THIS. What’s great about Marxy though, is his unquestionable ability to nail the elusive mistress that is groove; every hum, thud and scrape reacts with its neighbour. The rest of the EP gets deeper and progressively more erratic as you explore, the curtain call being a remix from Dimitar Dodovski that’s as unpredictable as a box of angry (if not slightly lethargic) frogs. A marvellous release! It’s out in May.
